How will you support and broaden the science agenda at APA?

I support:

  • The Science Directorate agenda, PSY21, a plan to set scientific priorities in APA.
  • Expanding the Science Leadership Conference so that participants can work together on identifying science needs and implement strategies to address these needs, including advocacy and lobbying for public and private dollars.
  • Expansion of successful PSY21 results and subsequent development of additional initiatives to enhance the science of psychology.
  • More directed attention to the development of a science pipeline that begins with students as early as K-12.
  • Greater collaboration between practice and science for the public interest.

What do you view as the most pressing challenges and opportunities for public and private practice in the next decade?

Recruiting and retaining professionals in public and private practice will be major issues. Practitioners must be able to earn a living therefore licenses must be obtainable and portable within a reasonable amount of time.

WE:

  • Will continue to be challenged to increase the public's awareness of and confidence in the science and practice of psychology.
  • Must meet the demand for delivering psychological services to a very diverse world.
  • Must adapt to the changing technologies that will influence the delivery of psychological services world-wide.
  • Must have educational programs nimble enough to train practitioners for emerging specialties.
