Career Services Staff
Alisha Rose Henderson, Director
Alisha Rose Henderson is the Director of Career Services. She came to The University of Memphis from Mississippi Valley State University where she served as Director of Career Services. She is responsible for administrative functions as well as managing and collecting Post Graduation information, overseeing production of marketing materials, and assisting students with achieving career goals. Other duties include conducting community and university outreach and developing and nurturing employer relationships.
She received her Juris Doctor from Southern University School of Law, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Xavier University, New Orleans, Louisiana. Alisha has served as a counselor and adjunct professor. She worked in the legal profession prior to pursuing a career in higher education.
Alisha is a member of the Tennessee Association of Colleges and Employers (TACE), the Southeastern Association of Colleges and Employers (SACE), and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). She holds certifications in Career Coaching, Job Search Training and Mediation.
She is committed to helping students and alumni excel. She is passionate about preparing a new generation of leaders. Alisha looks forward to assisting students/alumni with their career goals.
Clay
A. Woemmel, Associate Director
Clay
Woemmel is the Associate Director of Career Services
at The University of Memphis. He started his career at the University
in 2000 as a Career Advisor, becoming Assistant Director in 2002 and Associate Director in 2006.
His responsibilities include working directly with students and faculty
to provide advising and outreach programs, working with the director
on policy initiatives and programming, and supervising staff.
He received his Master of Science in Counseling and Personnel Services
from The University of Memphis. He holds a Bachelor of Science from
Southeast Missouri State University with majors in Psychology and
Public Relations. Before coming to the University, Clay worked in
a variety of higher education and community mental health programs.
He completed his master's-level internship in Career Services at Rhodes
College in Memphis.
Clay is a member of the Southeastern Association of Colleges and
Employers (SACE) and the Tennessee Association of Colleges and Employers
(TACE). Clay served as the Business Manager for the 2002 SACE conference,
was Exhibits Co-Chair for the 2003 conference, and served as Program
Co-Chair for the 2004 conference. In 2003, Clay received the New Professional
Award from SACE.
He has also been active in The University of Memphis community, serving
as a conference committee member for the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Memphis
in May Student Affairs Conferences. In 2005, Clay received the Pyramid
Award from the Division of Student Affairs.
Courtney Pierce, Assistant Director
Courtney Pierce is the Assistant Director of Employer Relations and Internships. She came to the University of Memphis from Louisiana State University where she served as Coordinator of Experiential Education in Career Services. She provides leadership for employer relations and internship initiatives including program development, administration, and evaluation, assists and advises students on all aspects of the internship process, and collaborates with academic departments within the university in an effort to centralize the internship process.
She received her Master of Arts in Higher Education/Student Personnel and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Mississippi. While at The University of Mississippi, she worked as a graduate assistant in Career Services for 2 years.
Courtney is a member of Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE), Tennessee Association of Colleges and Employers (TACE), National Society of Experiential Education (NSEE), and National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
She enjoys interacting with employers and alumni in the community to establish relationships in order to bring more internship and employment opportunities to our students at the university. Courtney looks forward to making the University of Memphis the employers’ first choice when looking for students to fill part-time, full-time, and internship positions.
Libby Lessentine, Career Advisor
Libby Lessentine joined The University of Memphis as a Career Advisor in Career Services in 2008. Her responsibilities include helping undecided students choose a career path, presenting career related information to university classes and campus organizations, coordinating career services workshops, and working individually with students and alumni through their career process; including job search assistance, resume and cover letter writing, and interview preparation.
Libby holds a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Rhodes College. She received her Master of Science in Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration in Student Personnel Services from The University of Memphis. As a student at the university, Libby completed her graduate internship in Career Services. Prior to her time at The University of Memphis she served as a Residential and Family Counselor with Youth Villages.
Shayla Collins, Recruiting Coordinator
Shayla Collins is the Recruiting Coordinator. She is responsible for managing and coordinating all employer recruiting activities and posting jobs and internships. She also oversees the planning, registration and logistics of the major career events held on campus. Other duties include monitoring the department’s budget and assisting the Assistant Director with employer outreach initiatives.
She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Jackson State University located in Jackson, MS. In May 2008, she received a Master of Science in Student Personnel from the University of Memphis. As a student at the university, Shayla also completed her graduate internship in Career Services.
She is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE), the Tennessee Association of Colleges and Employers (TACE), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).
Shayla is excited about working in Career Services and being a part of the Employer Relations team! Additionally, she is enthused about creating a great experience for employers seeking to recruit U of M students and alumni.
Jackie
Webb, Senior Administrative Secretary
"Whether
you call Career Services or come into the office, you will have many
of your questions answered in the reception area. Jackie is available
to schedule an appointment with a counselor, provide you assistance
with eRecruiting, or if you just need some general information.
Jackie brings alot of experience with her after having worked in
business and industry for many years.
