MISSION OVERVIEW

Career Services (CS) helps prepare students (beginning with freshmen) and alumni with proficient job search skills that enable them to effectively represent themselves to prospective employers.

The Career Services Office is in it’s new location on the 4th floor of Wilder Tower, Room 400. You may reach us by phone at (901) 678-2239. The office is open from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. During the fall and spring semesters, we hold extended hours on Monday and Tuesday evenings until 5:00 PM. As a centralized career center serving all majors from entering freshmen through alumni, we provide the following programs and services:

Take Advantage of Free Access to eRecruiting: The Experience eRecruiting Network is used by over 400 colleges and universities nationwide to post student resumes, schedule on-campus interviews, and provide on-line job listings for students.

Some of the great features of eRecruiting are listed below:

  • On-Campus Interviews: During the fall and spring semesters, recruiters representing business, industry, government, and education conduct campus interviews for graduating seniors. Seniors may sign up for campus interviews through eRecruiting.
  • Web Resume Book: You may upload your resume and display it in The University of Memphis Web Resume Book for employers to view. When employers contact us about student resumes, we refer them to this on-line database. Between 3,000 and 7,000 resume referrals are done each year through the Web Resume Book.
  • Save Multiple Versions of Your Resume: You may save an unlimited number of different resumes through the eRecruiting system which can then be used for on-campus recruiting, the web resume book, referrals and replying to job listings.
  • View Job Listings: You may view internships, part-time and full-time job listings for off-campus jobs through the eRecruiting network. Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to view internships and part-time jobs.

Internships and Part-time Jobs

  • Internships: Internships and co-ops provide valuable work experience that makes you marketable to employers. Visit the Career Services Internship Coordinator for assistance with your internship search.
  • Part-time Jobs: Our office works with students who are seeking part-time employment off campus. Stop by the office to see the latest part-time job listings or view on-line job listings on our website. If you are interested in working for the University as a student worker, contact Student Employment at 678-3708 or stop by 103 Wilder Tower.

Advising Services
Have a career question? Make an appointment to visit with a professional staff member by calling for an appointment at least two days in advance.

  • Individual Advising: Need to talk with someone about your career or need help with your job search? Make an appointment for advising.
  • Resume Critiques: Have your resume critiqued by an experienced professional to ensure that you make just the right first impression. Don't forget to bring a draft of your resume to your appointment.
  • Mock Interviews: Practice your interview skills before the big day. Our staff will conduct a confidential "mock" interview. You will be asked common interview questions with the video camera running. Feedback will be provided. Please schedule mock interviews at least one week in advance.

Choosing a Major/Career Assessment
If you are interested in choosing a major or taking career assessments, contact Career Counseling at 678-2068 or stop by 211 Wilder Tower. When you have a clear idea of the career you want to pursue, be sure to stop by our office (400 Wilder Tower) for help in attaining your goals.
