The University of Memphis Office of Minority Affairs provides a welcoming and supportive environment that advises minority students with regard to their academic, social, cultural, and financial affairs.  With a caring, professional staff, the office helps students adjust to learning, living, and working in a large university setting.

Students also utilize the office as a source of information about opportunities for leadership development, conferences, internships, scholarships, professional schools, and community involvement.

The Office of Minority Affairs coordinates various programming efforts throughout the year. A committee of faculty, staff, and students collaborates annually to produce a month-long series of events during Black History Month. Outstanding members of the Memphis community are recognized with the Authur S. Holmon Lifetime Achievement Award.  The Authur S. Holmon Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student. Students are also recognized for scholarship and leadership during the annual Black Scholars Breakfast (in October) and Black Student Association Awards (in April).

The office is home to several student organizations, including the Black Student Association, Black Scholars Unlimited, Empowered Men of Color (EMOC), the Hispanic Student Association, and the University of Memphis chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). All U of M students are encouraged to join these organizations, and can visit the office in 800 Wilder Tower for more information.








Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Minority Affairs is to promote and advance the personal development and academic success of minority students enrolled at The University of Memphis. This is accomplished by developing and administering programs, activities and services that address the social, educational, cultural and personal needs of minority students.
