Youth Villages A non-profit agency serving emotionally troubled youth and their families through residential care, home-based counseling, foster care, community based programs and adoption services. Adopt-a-cottage - Once a month activity with a designated group of children. Volunteers provide an activity for all to do for about 1½ - 2 hours. Birthday Heroes - Usually apart of Adopt-a-Cottage. I will get you the number and names of children within a specific cottage or group home to help celebrate their birthday. Once a month Holiday Heroes - Done around Christmas time. You can "adopt" one or more children for the holiday season and help purchase gifts from their list. Max amount spent on each child is $75. Mentor - Must be 21 years old and spend 4-6 hours a month with a child. Tutors - Either in our Youth Villages' schools or Groups homes after school Teach a skill - Do you like to sing, dance, coach, change a tire or spark plug. Our children would like to learn these things as well. Spiritual Life - A Christian based program that introduces or continues spiritual guidance for our young children. Bible study, testimonies, chapel services. Volunteer Venture - 1st Saturday of each month (limited space available) *Hands on Memphis Bartlett Campus - 1st Tuesday of each month *Hands on Memphis Dogwood Campus - 3rd Saturday of each month *Hands on Memphis Poplar Group Home - 3rd Saturday of each month *Must sign up through Hands on Memphis - www.handsonmemphis.org to go through their training and sign up for individual programs. Fraternity or Sororities are welcome to join us for volunteer activities as well. We will just need to determine a date, time, location, group of residents, and activity before we start.
Youths Stiving for Excellence An afterschool program that includes reading, math, and science to enrich academic skills. Tutoring, especially in math and reading.
