BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The students at The University of Memphis have worked diligently to organize a wonderful schedule of events to celebrate Black History Month.  Events include “A Night with Smokey Robinson”, “A dialogue with Lynn Norment, Sr. Managing Editor for Ebony Magazine”, and a blood drive.  The month kicks off on Wednesday, February 1, at 7pm in Rose Theatre with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Bishop G E Patterson of the Church of God in Christ and closes on Feb 28 at 12:30pm in University Center Faulkner Lounge with guest of honor Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton.  For a complete list of events click here.

BEST SELLING AUTHOR ON CAMPUS

The University of Memphis will host best-selling writer John M. Barry on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre. The author of five books, Barry is best known for The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History and Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America.  The event is free and open to the public so make plans to join us.

With the Tennessee State Legislature beginning its 2006 session, you will read of many proposed changes to the HOPE Lottery Scholarship program.  However, they are just that – proposals.  You can keep up with actual changes in the program by visiting www.collegepaystn.com.
