BIG REGISTRATION CHANGES

This Spring and Summer, the University will begin a major transition in online registration, moving away from TIGERWEB, the outgoing registration and enrollment system, to Spectrum Student Self Service, the new one. This change will alter the normal pattern of Summer registration; it will also determine which system your student needs to use.

Summer 2007

All registration and enrollment activities will take place on TIGERWEB. This means students will use TIGERWEB to register for, add, and drop Summer classes, and to check Summer grades. Summer registration this year will be held in two stages. Stage 1, Priority Registration, begins March 19 and ends March 23. Students register according to their classification: <>

March 19 – Degree-seeking Graduate students begin registering.
March 20 – Seniors begin registering.

March 21 – Juniors begin registering.

March 22 – Sophomores begin registering.

March 23 – Freshmen and non-degree-seeking students register; Stage 1 closes.

Summer registration will be closed March 24 – April 8: no one may register. On April 9, Stage 2 of Summer registration, Regular Registration, opens. Students, regardless of classification, may register and adjust their schedules until the first day of classes.

Fall 2007

All registration and enrollment activities related to Fall will take place on Spectrum Self Service. Fall registration opens April 9 and follows this schedule:

April 9  – Degree-seeking Graduate students begin registering/adjusting schedules.
April 11 – Seniors begin registering/adjusting schedules.

April 13 – Juniors begin registering/adjusting schedules.

April 16 – Sophomores begin registering/adjusting schedules.

April 18 – Freshmen begin registering adjusting/schedules.

April 20 – Non-degree-seeking students begin registering/adjusting schedules.
<>Fall 2007

First-time Freshmen
If your student will be attending the University of Memphis for the first time in Fall 2007, then he or she will use Spectrum Self Service. Your student will never have to use TIGERWEB.

Reminder:

Regardless of the term or registration system, your student must be in good financial standing with the University in order to register. Any unpaid fees or fines from one semester will prevent your student from registering in the next. <>

Information on how to access and use Spectrum Self Service will be available to students on the University’s website as well as in various publications and communications.

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID OFFICE

Many of you have probably already filed your 2006 income taxes.  Tax time is FAFSA time!!  Don’t lose out on free money!!  New and continuing students are encouraged to complete or renew their 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2007 to ensure the best financial aid package for the next academic year.  But it’s not too late!  To apply, go to:  www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The school code for The University of Memphis is:  003509.

Students interested in taking classes during the Summer 2007 semester should visit the Student Financial Aid Office at 103 Wilder Tower to complete a “Summer Update Form” or go to our website (link listed below) and click on ‘Financial Aid Forms’.   Funds for Summer are extremely limited because it is a trailer to the 2006-2007 academic year.  Federal Pell Grant funds (if eligible) are available only if you attended part-time in the Fall 2006 and/or Spring 2007 semesters, or did not receive payment for one of those semesters.  If you received aid at another institution during the Fall and/or Spring semesters, our office would also have to consider what aid you already received.

The Student Financial Aid Office is also transitioning to the new Banner System (Spectrum) this year.  Updates will also be posted at our website at:

http://www.enrollment.memphis.edu/FinancialAid/

U OF M’S DWAYNE SCOTT NAMED MAXINE SMITH FELLOW

<>    Dwayne Scott, associate dean of students for judicial affairs at the U of M, has been selected to participate in the 2007 Maxine Smith Fellows Program of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), the governing body for 47 universities, community colleges, and technology centers throughout the state. The Maxine Smith Fellows program provides African-American employees of TBR schools the opportunity to participate in a working and learning environment that will enhance their work experience and career development.

COOK SYSTEMS AND U OF M PARTNERSHIP

A unique partnership between Cook Systems International Inc. and the University of Memphis will help to grow the area’s high-tech work force.
Cook Systems’ CollegeCareerCorps is a program that integrates students into professional technology teams in entry-level positions to work on real information technology projects. The students join a team that includes experienced information technology professionals to work on actual IT projects on a long-term basis. Students typically work 20 hours a week and continue with the same client partner for up to two years. More than 20 U of M students are currently working with CollegeCareerCorps.

BURSAR’S OFFICE

Reminder:  To avoid a $25 late payment fee, students who elected to pay their Spring 2007 fees using the Installment Payment Plan must pay the final installment by April 1, 2007.

Fees can be paid by credit card or e-check online at http://bf.memphis.edu/ebursar. Student’s UUID is his/her Universal User Identification. The username and password required to login to eBursar are the same username and password used to login to University e-mail and UMDrive accounts.  At this Web site, students can set you up as an authorized user, which will allow YOU to go online to view and pay fees.

If the student does not remember his/her UUID or password, go to iAM, the University's self-service identity management website. This website gives students access to a secure website where they can change and maintain information about themselves.

Upcoming deadlines/key dates:

March 8:  Fee Payment Deadline (4:30pm) for students who register for Second Semester ONLY between January 20 and March 8

April 1:  3rd Installment Fee Payment Deadline (4:30pm) for students who utilized the Installment Payment Plan for the Spring 2007 semester

RESIDENCE LIFE AND DINING SERVICES

Summer Room Reservation
Summer housing will be available in Carpenter Complex.  Current students may submit a completed First Summer Room Reservation form to the Residence Life and Dining Services Office on Wednesday, March 21, 2007.  Second Summer Room Reservation will be held June 12, 2007, for first summer residents.  If housing is required during the break between the Spring Semester and First Summer opening, students may request this on the First Summer Room Reservation Form.  Accommodations will be available in Richardson Towers until First Summer check-in on June 1, 2007, for an additional cost. If only Second Summer housing is required, the student must complete an application for Second Summer Session in the Residence Life and Dining Services Office, 011 Richardson Towers prior to 2nd Summer.

Closing for Spring Break
The University of Memphis residence halls, with the exception of Richardson Towers and Carpenter Complex will close as 12 Noon on Saturday, March 3 and will reopen on Sunday, March 11.  NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN, OR BE READMITTED TO THE RESIDENCE HALLS DURING THIS TIME. Residents are not required to move their belongings out of the halls; however, residents should take all valuables with them when they leave.
