Go Tigers Go!!

March is a hectic month when academic requirements and social activities can collide. Ask your student to speak to academic advisors in preparation for registration for Summer and Fall semesters. Encourage your student to speak to professors about difficult classes or exams on which he/she didn’t perform well. Remind your student that, while Spring is a time for much social activity, balance is important.

We hope you enjoy our new format. To appreciate fully, be sure you open the e-news in a full screen view.

Leadershape

Highly Recognized Leadership Training is Brought to Campus

When employers are asked to name something that they wish more college students possessed upon graduation, by and large, they mention something about leadership knowledge. The University of Memphis is hosting an event in May of 2008 that will address this topic for a large number of our students.

We are pleased to announce that the University will be hosting a session of The LeaderShape Institute on May 5-10. This Institute is six days of highly-intensive leadership training for students that focuses on integrity-based leadership, building effective relationship in diverse team settings, and developing action plans to achieve extraordinary visions of progress. In addition to working with other students, session participants will get to meet with and hear from a guest panel of leaders from a number of professions.

In its 22 years of existence, The LeaderShape Institute has over 20,000 graduates. Many of those graduates are from national sessions that cost the average student nearly $1500. We are able to offer that same training for up to 60 students at the University for no cost to our participants. Memphis is one of about 75 schools nation-wide that will be hosting a session of LeaderShape in 2008, which helps to place us among the elite for leadership education.

The application for our session of LeaderShape is now available and is due by April 1 st . If you would like additional information about the goals of this program, please visit www.leadershape.org . For more information about The University of Memphis session, contact Jon Campbell at 901-678-1781 or jcmpbll3@memphis.edu . We hope that you take a look and encourage your student to apply!
