Residence Life

RESIDENCE HALL ASSOCIATION

Students living on campus have the opportunity to become involved with programming in their residence halls through the Residence Hall Association.  The first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 9, at 4:00 p.m. in the Richardson Towers Game Room.  The Residence Hall Association also provides transportation on the Krogermobile once a week for students who would like to purchase groceries.  A schedule is posted in the lobbies of the residence halls after check-in.

TIGER LEARNING CENTER

The Tiger Learning Center is located in Richardson Towers South and is open and staffed 80 hours a week for tutoring, quiet study, or word processor use.

FALL 2004 ROOM CHANGE AND CONSOLIDATION

Thursday, September 2 or Friday, September 3 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

If a student moves to a room which rents for more than the current room, the resident will be required to pay additional rent before the room change paperwork is completed.  Students participating in the Freshmen First Program moving out of the program to another room after check-in will forfeit 25% of the cost of the Freshmen First Program.  Sole occupants of double rooms after the room change period who do not wish to declare their rooms single and pay the difference in rent, if given the opportunity, will be required to consolidate with another resident.

RENT REFUND POLICIES

Refund of residence hall rent after check-in will be prorated on a weekly calendar basis when the student is forced to withdraw from the residence halls, (1) because of personal medical reasons confirmed in writing by a licensed physician, or (2) at the request of the institution for other than disciplinary reasons.  Seventy-five percent of rent will be refunded to residents withdrawing from the residence halls for a period of fourteen calendar days beginning with, and including, the first official day of check-in.  Twenty-five percent of rent will be refunded to residents withdrawing from the residence halls after the expiration of the seventy-five percent rent refund period.  The twenty-five percent refund period ends upon expiration of one fourth of the semester for which rent was due.

Visit www.memphis.edu/reslife for more information regarding the residence halls.

Course adjustments can be made through September 2 on TigerWeb. After September 2, students must see their advisor in order to attempt to "late add" a class.

Registrar’s Office

CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY

Instructors report to the Office of the Registrar all students who have not attended any class meeting during the first two weeks of classes (fall/spring) or the first week of classes (summer). These students will be sent a “Notice of Non-Attendance”. Students who do not attend classes are responsible for processing an official drop/withdrawal on TIGERWEB at www.tigerweb.memphis.edu. Students accept both fee and grade liability at the time of registration. In order to avoid fee or grade liability, students must drop/withdraw prior to the first day of classes for the session in which the course is taught. Furthermore, students who stop attending will be assigned a grade of “F” in courses from which they have not officially withdrawn.

NOTE: Students who receive VA benefits or Title IV funds for enrollment fees but who stop attending, may have current and future awards cancelled and may have to repay benefits immediately, whether or not they officially withdraw or drop courses.

DROPS TURNING TO “W” GRADES

After the official registration period is over, students may make adjustments in their schedules through the process of adding and/or dropping courses. Courses dropped through the 14th calendar day of sessions seven weeks or longer, or the 7th calendar day of sessions shorter than seven weeks, will not be shown on the student’s permanent record. Courses dropped after these days will be shown on the permanent record with withdrawal grades of “W”. Students may drop any course or courses up through the last day to drop for that session. To simply stop attending a class, without officially dropping the course, incurs the grade of “F”.

Important Note: Dropping courses may impact Hope Lottery Scholarship and/or Financial Aid eligibility.

Homecoming 2004

Events like Homecoming help us recognize our strong heritage and reinforce our excitement of being a part of the University community. This year, U of M will take on the University of Houston at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, in the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.  In addition, we will celebrate our campus traditions with a Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade is open to the community and will include student floats and banner competitions, wagon competition for kids, and great freebies and hand outs.  A pep rally will take place in the Central Avenue Parking Lot immediately following the parade and will include guest appearances by: President Raines, Coach Tommy West, The Mighty Sound of the South, Pom and Cheer Squads and much more!  For more information please contact the Alumni Office at 678-2586 or alumnievents@memphis.edu
