STUDENT HEALTH FAIR
The Student Health Fair is coming October 4 from 10 am until 2 pm on the Alumni Mall under the Big Top Tent!  All students are invited to attend and learn about the multitude of resources available on campus and in the surrounding area that can help them maintain or improve their physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and financial well-being. Nearly 60 exhibitors will be present along with the Fatal Vision Goggle Obstacle Course, with Campus Police conducting sobriety tests. Free food, water, and door prizes! Hoping to see all our students there!

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID OFFICE
Fee payment deadline for the Fall 2006 semester has come and gone!!   We hope that your students are all adjusted to their new classes, classmates, and instructors.  Students can still apply for federal aid for this semester and the remainder of the 2006-2007 academic year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Go on line to:  www.fafsa.ed.gov.   The University of Memphis’ school code is 003509.

Our office NO LONGER mails required forms or documents or any award information.  Your student now needs to go directly to TIGERWEB (www.tigerweb.memphis.edu).  Once they enter their Student ID and PIN, they need to select “Student Requirements” under Financial Aid.  They can download most of the required forms from the Financial Aid web page at: http://www.enrollment.memphis.edu/FinancialAid/  then click on Financial Aid Forms.

To see if you have been awarded, go to “Award Information by Year” under Financial Aid.  (At this time, Tigerweb automatically defaults to the 2007 year.)

Check TIGERWEB for your personal updated financial aid information or call our office at (901) 678-4825 if you have any questions.  If you have a scholarship inquiry, please contact the Scholarship Office directly at (901) 678-3213.

BURSAR’S OFFICE
September invoices are available online at http://bf.memphis.edu/ebursar. Emails are sent to students notifying them when statements are available.

For students who enrolled in the installment payment plan, the second installment is due by October 1, 2006 to avoid a $25 late payment fee.

Fees can be paid by credit card or e-check online at http://bf.memphis.edu/ebursar.

Students can set up a PIN number at the above site for you to be able to view and pay the statements and invoices. (This PIN number is new and different from any other that you may have already established.)

REGISTRAR’S OFFICE
ADDING AND DROPPING CLASSES:
Fall classes are now well underway. Except for Second Session classes, it is now too late for students to adjust their class schedules by adding classes or changing sections. Students may add or change sections in Second Session classes through October 19. (The Fall term contains four sessions—Full, First, Second, and Regents. For more information on the different Sessions, please see: Sessions: What Are the Differences?)

Although “Adds” are limited to the Second Session at this point, “Drops” are a different matter. Students still have time to drop classes in all sessions. Here are the key dates that pertain to dropping classes, for each session:

Last Day to Drop a Class
( Full: 10/20 )  ( First: 9/20 )  ( Second: 11/09 )  ( Regents: 10/20 )

Students who drop on or before the deadline can still receive a “W” grade. However, if they miss their deadline, they have to accept the grade that the teacher assigns.

What is a “W” grade; what does it mean? A "W" simply indicates that the student dropped (Withdrew from) a course. “W” grades are not calculated into a student’s GPA (grade point average), so in this sense they do not hurt. However, you and your student should be aware of the following facts about “W” grades:

- They are recorded on the student’s transcript. A student should avoid accumulating too many of them if he or she plans to go on to graduate school or to some professional school (law, medical, etc.). Such schools do not like to see “W” grades on an applicant's record.

- In certain instances, “W” grades can affect a student’s financial aid, particularly continued eligibility for Lottery Scholarships. “W” hours do count toward the number of hours covered by Lottery Scholarships.

Dropping a class can also affect a student’s financial aid status.  Make sure that your student contacts the Financial Aid Office BEFORE making the decision to drop a class.  Their counselor can review all the information and let them know any ramification that might occur as a result of dropping or withdrawing from a class.

RESIDENCE LIFE AND DINING SERVICES INFORMATION
Spring 2006 Cancellation Deadline
Students who have a current contract for the residence halls have a contract for the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 Semesters.  Students who wish to cancel the Spring 2007 portion of their contracts must do so in writing by November 1, 2006, in order to prevent being responsible for the $200 rental prepayment for the Spring 2007 Semester.

Cancellations must be made in writing and submitted to the Residence Life and Dining Services Office, 011 Richardson Towers.

Fall Break
The residence halls remain open for the Fall Break.

WHY CAN’T I SEE MY STUDENT’S GRADES?
Did you know that certain student information is private and may not be disclosed to parents?
